We are rapidly approaching the halfway stage of the 2025 IPL and we are set for a thrilling finish with several teams finding themselves in contention.
If you want to place a bet ahead of the second half of the group stage starting, here are the latest odds and some of the teams to watch out for.
RCB
With eight points from six games, RCB find themselves in third place in the group stage but level with the Gujarat Titans and the Delhi Capitals, it is only a slightly worse run rate which has seen them trail their rivals.
After a strong start to their campaign with wins against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings, RCB have gone onto lose two of their next four games and are about to embark on a critical part of their schedule.
One of the reasons for their success has been their ability to score runs in the powerplay, with only the Lucknow Super Giants scoring more.
With both Phil Salt and Virat Kohli finding the boundaries regularly through the Powerplay, a lot of RCB’s success has been due to the power hitting of those two at the top of order.
Kohli has been able to win everything in the game with the exception of an IPL title, and he will be desperate to finally get his hands on the title that has eluded him for so long.
They head into their final eight games of the season knowing that their destiny is well and truly in their hands and they will be desperate to reach the playoffs yet again.
Delhi Capitals
Another team hoping to get their hands on that IPL trophy for the very first time is the Delhi Capitals.
The surprise package in this year’s competition, the Capitals were able to win their first four games of the season before falling to the Mumbai Indians in game five.
Their defeat to Mumbai is the Capitals first blip of the season and it will be interesting to see how they respond.
One of the men who has had a calming influence on the team is former Indian white ball great KL Rahul. Averaging 40 across his five innings in the tournament so far, Rahul has given his team the platform to perform and his efforts with the bat have played a key role in helping Delhi to their strong start to the season.
With the ball, Delhi have been grateful to call on the exploits of Kuldeep Yadav. The Indian spin master has been one of the most consistent performers in this year’s IPL with ten wickets so far and if Delhi are to go deep into the playoffs, they will need Kuldeep to maintain his current levels.
With nine matches still to play in the league phase, there is every chance that the Capitals could head into the knockouts as the overall leaders.
Gujarat Titans
Rounding out the top three in the betting are the Gujarat Titans. Winners of the IPL back in their debut season in 2022, they almost repeated the trick a year later before eventually losing in the final to the Chennai Super Kings.
Having missed out on the playoffs last year, the Titans are looking to get back to where they feel they belong and after six games sit on top of the group stage standings.
A huge reason for their levels of performance has been the form of Sai Sudharsen and Joss Buttler. Despite the Titans having no answer for the stunning Nicholas Pooran in their defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants, Sudharsan kept himself in the hunt to land the Orange Cap with a solid knock of 56.
He has announced himself as one for the future in this tournament and if he can keep up his fluency, he is providing the perfect platform for both Joss Buttler and Shubman Gill to flourish.
With the ball they have three excellent bowlers in the shape of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore all having taken ten wickets.
The Titans look like one of the most well rounded teams in the competition and it would be a surprise to see them fail to reach the latter stages of this year’s tournament.
Lucknow Super Giants
A team that can’t be ignored are the Lucknow Super Giants. One of the first teams to play seven games in the group stage they have picked up four wins and three losses during the first half of the season and a repeat of that effort in the second half should see them finish inside the coveted top four positions.
Having won three consecutive matches, they became the latest team to fall foul of the legendary exploits of M.S Dhoni and they could do nothing but watch as the Chennai Super Kings beat them across the finish line.
One of the reasons behind the Super Giants success has been the devastating impact of Nicholas Pooran. The current Orange Cap leader through the halfway mark of the season, the only currency Pooran has been dealing in this season is 6’s.
Having struck 31 in seven games, Pooran has the ability to decide the outcome of games with just a few swishes of his bat. Ably supported by the hitting prowess of Mitchell Marsh, Lucknow have the ability to outscore any opponent and that should aid them in their bid for a first ever IPL crown.
Punjab Kings
Having played fewer games than most teams at this stage of the season, the Punjab Kings are looking to barge their way into the top four conversation.
Having finished in ninth spot in the group phase last season, the Kings are looking for a first playoff berth since 2014 and through their first five games they look on track to achieve that.
Having already beaten three of the best teams in the IPL in the shape of the Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, the Kings have shown they have the ability to compete and beat the best in this year’s IPL. They will be hopeful of keeping it altogether through the second half of the season.
The key to the Kings returning to the playoffs might just be the form of Shreyas Iyer.
Averaging exactly fifty through his first five innings, Iyer finds himself in the mix for Orange Cap glory and with games to make up on those around him, him landing a first ever Orange Cap is a possibility.
